Hello Friends –
Happy Spring. The birds are singing and the plants…the plants never fail to make us squeal with delight. There's a lot going on here at the store. And to make sure that you don't miss anything, we have added some new stuff to our website. Check out my new blog and our calendar of events.
Welcome home
Even with limited space, this little entry garden creates a beautiful welcome for this cottage. Where one might expect a knee-high pot with a few flowers, we went for an oversized pot to make a bold statement. The sea-foam blue pot and the variegated yucca play well against the rich, dark hue of the wall. Don't you just love it?

Yucca ‘Jewel’
The gorgeous variegated yucca is a survivor. It is a great choice if the pot by your front door is watered by hand, as it will still look lovely even if you forget to water it for a few weeks. Wind? No problem. This yucca will thrive in a dark condition as well as in the full sun. The leaves are soft, much friendlier than other yuccas.

Too cute for words
What can I say? From the moment I saw these guys I was in love.

The Cabana has landed
After an inspiring evening with Debra Prinzing, talking about Stylish Sheds and Elegant Hideaways I became fixated on the idea of having a shed in the yard here at the store.
Luckily, the folks at Modern Cabana thought it would be fun to have a shed at our store, too. So in a matter of days, TaDa!!! we have a really elegent shed. And it is so much fun. We love building little front yards for it, and we have plans for guest interior designers to come to decorate it, like our own minature Designer Showcase.

Free workshop this Sunday: Grow the Best Bamboo
Free workshops series - Every third Sunday in 2009
Sunday, May 17, 10:30am

Himalayacalamus hookerianus, or you can call it blue bamboo
Please join Jim Kumiega and Laura Stratton to talk about the very best bamboos for our climate and your garden. They will take you on a journey through the world of gorgeous bamboos, helping you avoid making the kinds of mistakes that can give these useful plants a bad name.
Laura keeps us all humming as nursery manager, and as display manager Jim helps create, and executes, Flora's vision in the store. Both Jim and Laura have many years of experience working with bamboo in the Bay Area’s many microclimates.
To learn more about the free workshops we are offering every third Sunday at 10:30am through December, visit our new calendar of events.
We are here everyday. Come and see us soon.
