Hello Friends,
I have dreamed of visiting the Sierra Madre, the mountainous spine of Mexico and habitat to so many plants that we adore and carry here in the store. There is something very special about seeing a plant in its native habitat. It will forever change your understanding of the plant to see it growing amidst the birds, bugs, mosses, and other plants of its ecosystem. If you dream of exploring the home of the salvias, fuchsias, echeverias, and bromeliads that you have in your own garden, we have an escape of the mind planned just for you…
We have two events planned with our friends at San Francisco Electric Works that we are really excited about. We hope you can come to one or the other-or both!
First, This Friday
Join us this Friday, Feb. 22, at San Francisco Electric Works for Treasures of the Sierra Madre, Birds of West Mexico. This exhibit includes new paintings by David Tomb as well as a sound installation by Martry Stewart and-you guessed it-a garden installation by Flora Grubb Gardens. Proceeds from the art sales will partly benefit cloud-forest preservation efforts. The effect will be a taste of the wild, a Friday night escape into the cloud forest.
Friday, Feb. 22, 6:00 - 8:00pm
130 8th St. between Mission and Minna, San Francisco

Then, March 5th
Please join us along with the SF Electric Works team for an opening of David Tomb's works here at Flora Grubb Gardens. This is the first event we have done of this kind, and once you see David's paintings you will understand why we felt that his birds would be at home here.
Join us Wednesday March 5, 5:00 - 8:00pm. We will serve drinks and nibbles, and enjoy a talk by Don Mahoney, curator of plant collections at the San Francisco Botanical Garden, on plants of the Sierra Madre. Don has explored the Sierra Madre in search of plants worthy of collection and cultivation. Don will share some of what he has learned in his years of discovery, study and experimentation with plants from the mountains of Mexico, and share tips for getting the best performance from these plants in our Bay Area gardens. Some rare Sierra Madre species will be available for purchase.
Wednesday March 5, 5:00 - 8:00 pm
Here at Flora Grubb Gardens!
